Paroa School Mini Olympics

Next Thursday is the Paroa school Mini Olympics from 12 - 2.45pm
Your child has been placed into a country to compete in.  They can dress up or wear the countries colours to school on the day!

Rhys' Writing Introduction

WALT: use language features like similes and onomatopoeia in our writing to add impact. 

This is the opening hook that Rhys has written, he has been working on show not tell and including language features to add impact.


I heard a footstep on the ground squash it was getting closer. I turned around then I saw a big flash like lightning. I turned one more time and I saw him,  it moved its hips back and I knew the cheater was about to pounce.

Glacier Camp Gear List 2016

For those of you that haven't received the the Glacier Camp Gear list, here is a copy of it.

YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO CARRY YOUR OWN LUGGAGE OVER SHORT DISTANCES. PLEASE PACK EVERYTHING INTO A SUITABLE PACK/LUGGAGE BAG. PLEASE LABEL ALL GEAR/CLOTHING.


optional *
Clothing for the Glacier Walk (First Day of Camp)
3- 4 warm layers for your upper body - polyprops and woolen layers, preferably not cotton layers
Track Pants (no jeans)
Sunglasses
Warm thermal socks
Completely waterproof Rain Jacket essential Puffer Jackets are not waterproof and are only suitable for dry conditions.
Walking Shoes (preferably sneakers)


General Clothing
1 x t-shirts
3 x Polypro tops
1 x Long Johns
3 x undies
2 x track pants/similar
4 x pairs socks
Swimming Togs
1 pair of good walking sneakers
1 pair of closed in shoes
X2 Sweater/warm jersey/hoodie
Waterproof jacket
PJ’s
Beanie/warm hat


Gear:
Packed lunch (for travel on Thursday)
Drink bottle
Lunch box (we will make a packed lunch on Friday)

Towel x1 (for showers and swimming)

1 ice-cream container of baking or fruit  (to be packed in with luggage) this will be given out at morning/afternoon tea, lunch and supper.


The woollen clothing and waterproof jacket are essential
The students will be walking and will need comfortable sensible clothing and footwear for this (gumboots are NOT suitable for walking).  They will also need the changes of clothes so the wet ones can be dried out.
